Today’s Vote

T

I got to my polling place around 8:00am this morning and took my place at the back of the line. It wasn’t bad, just 20 people or so, but it was far longer than the almost non-existent lines I’d experienced the last few elections.

Out of the 20 people in our line, there were at least 10 different ethnicities evident, and probably more that weren’t evident. I felt proud to be in that line, with those people, at that particular moment. I teared up, and not for the first time.

My district uses the Inka-Vote system. After carefully filling out all my votes and double- and triple-checking them, I took this photo:

I’ll remember this day for the rest of my life.
