Last Kings Game, and more

Have I been talking about regular, everyday life lately? Well, here’s one of those entries regardless. My weekend update!

Friday night was surrendered to Battlestar Galactica. I asked Chris to save the last two episodes of Season 3 so we could watch them together before the first episode of Season 4. Mmm. Three tasty  hours of good TV and couch snuggling, with cat. If there’s a better way to start the weekend, I don’t know what it is.

Saturday: Kings game!!! My beloved Kings, still last place in the NHL, lost their final game to the Ducks. This was my first time in the nosebleed seats, and we’ll be going back. Despite the fact that I clung to the handrails like a baby chimp to its mommy, the view of the game was spectacular. I’ve never seen the puck so well. It was awesome! We usually pay many many dollars to get close to the ice. I love hearing skate blades, feeling the vibrations when someone gets checked hard into the boards, seeing the player’s faces as they prepare for a face-off. But it’s hard to tell what’s going on. The folks high in the 300s have the best view, and seem to be the most die-hard fans. We had a blast. And at nosebleed prices, we can afford twice as many games next season. Who knows? The Kings might actually win some of them!

Saturday night, wonderful party with friends. I got to meet some new people, engage in passionate conversations about writing, physics, algorithms, and cats. (Okay, so I could only fully participate in a few of those, but even so.) Much fun.

Sunday I spent reading. And reading. And reading. I read about 450 pages of manuscripts that I need to critique. They aren’t due yet, but my brain has been using them as an excuse to avoid writing my novel.

Me: “I’m going to go write on my lunch break.”

Brain: “Hm. Why don’t you bring some of those manuscripts to read instead? That’s work too, you know.”

Me: “You win.”

So Sunday I sat on the sofa and read all day. I took breaks to play with the boy and the cat, and to eat way too much yummy food. And I read and read and read.  I really needed a day like that. A day with no obligations to anyone but myself. It felt marvelously indulgent. I wish I could have one of those days every week. No, it doesn’t take much to keep me happy.

Did you indulge this weekend? Even a little?
