Cheering Yourself Up

C

This business of writing creates no shortage of bad, down-in-the-dumps days. How do you cope?

Yesterday I ate 1.5 pounds of crab legs with copious amounts of butter. That’s an extreme remedy; usually I resort to making brownies and eating all the batter.

Some of my other remedies include:

  • Watching all of A&E’s Pride & Prejudice in one sitting (*with* extended dance scenes)
  • Watching reality TV marathons, like the entire season of Top Chef or America’s Next Top Model in one go
  • Did I mention chocolate?
  • Online shopping — Ouch!
  • Forcing the cats to snuggle

What about you? What’s the most extreme thing you’ve ever done to cheer yourself up?

  • It's not extreme. I go to the beach. In every weather. Or I'll go on a marathon LOTR read. Since the movies, sometimes I'll go for those. With lots of buttered popcorn. Okay, so maybe that's extreme.

I'll tell you what I DON'T do – I never, EVER, go into a bookstore when I'm in the dumps about writing. That's just a suicide move.

  • Hey there, this is Deva (from the Verla Kay blueboards). Congrats again on your marvelous agent news! I just popped over here to check out your website and saw this post and had to comment because if you swap out "dog" for "cats" and "Dr Who or Big Bang Theory" for "reality TV marathons" you would have my own list.

    • Hey Deva, welcome!!

You know, I'd be happy to join you in a Dr. Who or Big Bang Theory marathon — I love those shows, too!
