The lifestyle reboot continues! On my way home from work today, I bought a blender at Target (no, I didn’t already have one) and then hit Trader Joe’s for some staples for my all-new way of life.
I have never before filled my cart with such healthy “real” foods, and I have never before enjoyed grocery shopping so much. Unbelievable. Normally I get so frustrated studying nutrition information and ingredient lists. I loathe shopping! Not so today. Here’s what I got:
Veggies*: Spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes, edamame, beets, snow peas, avocados
Nuts: Walnut crumbles, almond slices, pine nuts, sunflower seeds, flax seeds
Fruit: Blueberries, apples, pears, bananas, peaches, kiwi, frozen mango, frozen berries
Cheese: Crumbled feta, fresh mozarrella
Misc: Puffins Cereal, milk, yogurt, apple juice
I’ve never looked into my shopping cart and been so happy. The only thing I regret (besides forgetting the chickpeas) is that I forgot my camera and didn’t get a picture. I also failed to take a picture of my first-ever smoothie (2 bananas, 4 apricots, apple juice, flax seeds). But then again, this isn’t supposed to be a food blog, so I’ll try not to overdo the pictures of salads.
*Yes, I know that technically some of those are fruits. :-P
I already feel so much more energetic and healthy! I never thought I would love salads, but weirdly, I am. I just wish there were a local farmer's market where I could get regular fresh veggies and fruits.
The Northridge Mall has a farmer's market every wednesday night from 5 to 9, I think, year round.
Oh, and you'll be amazed at how much less your grocery runs will cost you. Veggies and fruits are definitely cheaper than processed foods!
Hugs!
This is fantastic! I suspect you’re going to be very happy with these changes!
Alas, there's no way I could make it to Northridge by that time… and if I could, I'd be at kung fu! I really need to find a weekend farmer's market, or there's no hope. Luckily they're building a flagship Whole Foods on my block — I'll be healthy but broke!
