Much as I would like to be at home playing World of Warcraft, I am not. I’m at Lulu’s Beehive, my coffeehouse of choice, working on my novel. Soon, some friends will join me, and we’ll all sit here with our headphones on and do the writing thang. It’s a comfortable blend of social and asocial, of productivity and play, of coffee and bagels.

The Dare has started. I’m on chapter 1, and still struggling with the first sentence. An inauspicious beginning, to be sure.

How are you doing so far?

  1. Labor 'til Labor Day so far has… well, two and half chapters, for somewhere around 8,000 words. That's more than I've written in the entire last month. So, something's working!

  2. Personally, I'm driving in the opposite direction, but then again, I'm always driving in the opposite direction. I'm trying to remember what I enjoyed about writing to begin with.

I'll do the novel dare in November while I'm on the road, if I can do it and ride my eight hours a day. When I figured out how much stuff was going to take on the trip, it came up to about 26 hours of work a day. Not a lot of writing time left. :)

Good luck on this dare. I can't wait to see how it comes out.

    1. I understand driving in the opposite direction. I'm taking regular breaks from writing these days to give myself time to assimilate lessons and reconnect with what I love. Taking breaks from writing gives me better clarity when I head back into the madness.

26 hours of work a day? If anyone can pull that off, it's you. :)
