Nebula Recs?

The Nebula Award nomination period is now open! The rules have changed a lot this year, and I’m excited to see how those changes are reflected in the preliminary and final ballots.

Sadly, I’ve read almost nothing but middle grade and young adult novels in the last year, and am woefully behind on shorter works. (I’m not even going to try to catch up on adult SF/F novels.)

Where do I start? Please recommend your favorite stories!

A few requests:
1. Please limit your recommendations to three works across all categories. (I just want your absolute favorites!)
2. Please choose works available for free online (or via the SFWA website) if possible.

Thanks so much!

UPDATE: Oh, screw it. Recommend as many stories as you want. I need some place to start!!!

I posted those stories of mine that qualify at http://anghara.livejournal.com/429415.html, and I do believe a bunch of other people have done so on their own blogs – so look up authors you like and see if they've put down a list from which you might want to start picking your reading material… (One of mine isn't available online – if you want to read it shoot me an email and I'll be happy to send you a copy…)

Thanks, Alma! I actually got a little overwhelmed by all the stories posted on my friends' sites, so I was hoping to get recommendations to specific stories — there's just too much to read otherwise!

This totally doesn't help in narrowing things down, but I thought of you when I came across this blog dedicated to reviewing short SFF and poetry:

http://ttapress.com/fix/

I'm going to use that to get a feel for the landscape of short fiction this year and see if I can give you some better recommendations.

Props on the new theme *smile*
