Do You Twitter?

I heard about Twitter a few months ago, but despite being an early adopter, I didn’t check it out. Here’s Wikipedia’s definition:

Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows users to send “updates” (or “tweets”; text-based posts, up to 140 characters long) to the Twitter website, via short message service (e.g. on a cell phone), instant messaging, or a third-party application such as Twitterrific or Facebook.

Okay, I can see the allure. On Facebook, I enjoy reading that “Sarah is eating cookies. Nrm!” or that “Erin is taking her midterm!” It makes me feel closer to my friends to know what they’re doing — not just in general, but right now. That’s one of the things I love about blogging: not just hearing about the big events in my friend’s lives, but also about the small ones. The magic is in the details, after all.

Do any of you twitter? What do you think of it?

A friend of mine got me into it a couple weeks ago. I started out trying to post every couple hours, but that's dropped off, and now I'm following a couple others' tweets, trying to get into what they're using it for.

It’s been fun for the first day, but I wonder if my interest will similarly wane when the novelty wears off.

Twitter is nice cause it limits how much you say. Some of my friends can be quite long-winded.

LOL! Hadn't thought of it that way, but you're right. Part of what I like is getting a taste of my friends' days without having to read a few dozen lengthy emails. :)

I Twitter. It’s hard for me to twitter though…. I’m one of those long-winded sorts that doesn’t like the character limit (but I do understand it). I do like that the things I would normally not bother blogging a whole entry about can generally be summed up in a short span and twittered (tweeted?) to my friends, a few of whom are many miles away and are obsessive about twitter. Makes 1000 miles feel less dramatic, and makes me feel less angsty about it.

I don't really know what those four squares at the end of my post are from… my keyboard made them though, I know that much.

I don't even see the four squares! In any case, I am looking forward to your long-winded twitters. ;-)
